Have you seen food labels that advertise low calorie, low carbohydrate, reduced fat, or other diet claims. Even though these types of food are everywhere, Americans are still overweight. We have to wonder if any of these diet foods really help.

What Should We Eat for Healthy Weight Loss?

These days, experts advise us to concentrate on eating a large percentage of real food that contain a high water content. Obvious examples are almost any fruit or vegetable. These foods help us feel satisfied without adding a lot of calories to our diets.

Meat as a Side Dish

We are not asking you to start eating like your pet bunny either! We are just asking you to try changing the way you approach your meals. We tend to take a lot of meat and bread, and then put a little salad or veggies on our plate. Instead, pile your plate high with salad and green beans. Then add a small portion of bread and protein.

Enjoy Nature’s Candy

I know a lot of people who do not care for vegetables. But I have never met anybody who hates fruit. In early stages of evolution, it was probably our ancestor’s core food. Think about how large a serving of fresh fruit you could eat to equal the calories in one small candy bar. You probably would get full before you even at that much fruit. So next time you want a candy bar, try to stave off your craving with an apple, banana, or big serving of grapes.

Enjoy The Perfect Chocolate Diet Food

You can certainly drink chocolate on a diet. Try to satisfy your chocolate craving with chocolate skim milk or hot chcolate. It really has few calories for the protein, vitamins, and minerals it provides. Compare that to a candy bar or sugary soda. If you have not had chocolate milk for a long time, it may be time to add it back to your diet.

Food with No Real Calories

You can still enjoy your favorite foods. But if you dice up some veggies for your pasta sauce, you can reduce the amount of calories per serving. You can still eat the same portions, and even take seconds, without adding calories to your diet. If you feel satisfied that you have eaten enough food, you will be unlikely to overeat later too.

We have also found some foods that are very high in fiber so they contribute almost no calories to your diet. Konnyaku noodles are a popular example. These Japanese noodles are mostly water and fiber, and they provide satisfying pasta without a lot of calories or carbs.

Can You Still Dine Out?

You can go to your favorite restaurants. Try to start your meal with a large salad. When you order your meal, select vegetables or fruit instead of fries. If you have to have dessert, try to order fruit.

Can you Find Working Diet Food?

Doctors have confirmed this type of diet in studies. Subjects who ate a diet that was higher in high water content foods and fiber tended to be better at losing weight while feeling satisfied with the amount of food they ate!
